Although now Im struggling to remember if I even signed up for the beta in the first place. During the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase on Sunday, Blizzard announced Diablo 4 will come out in 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series XS, and PC. I’m wondering if we could see a new Diablo title that is also playable on mobile, Fortnite style, given that sort of thing feels like where games are headed these days, and Diablo loot farming is the perfect “on the go” type of activity, provided they could do it in a way where mobile controls weren’t awful. Damnit, I searched 'Blizzard' in my email and got excited when the first email had 'Adventure Awaits You' in the subject line. There’s a reason that game sold an absolutely astonishing amount of copies.
Back then, Blizzard said it could be a while before its out, though, and we know it wont be released this year. Diablo 3, by the end at least, was an incredible game, and building on that seems like a must rather than going in a wildly different direction. Diablo 4 was announced at BlizzCon 2019 and doesnt have a release date right now. Too often we see games “fix” themselves over a period of years, only to have a sequel arrive and throw half of it out the window (*cough* Destiny 2). Diablo was something of a revolution when it was first released. Back in January 1997, Gamespot declared Diablo to be ‘the best game to come out in the past year, and you should own a copy. Diablo 2 (2000) was free online, and we paid for 1 expansion and the game itself lasted 15 years with people playing. Until Blizzard start behaving like a good little studio again and start being more consumer friendly they wont get a penny out of me. (1997) Hi ho, hi ho, its off to slaughter we go. Fear not, thats exactly what I have and will continue to do.
For my money, the perfect Diablo 4 would simply be learning all of the lessons Blizzard took in after fixing all of Diablo 3’s mistakes, and improving upon that. (1996/97) Expansion: Diablo: Lords of Hellfire.
